Welcome to the "Save Warren Farm" Campaign site.
Here you can find information about the campaign to prevent Ealing Council from disposing of Warren Farm Playing Fields, a much valued community asset in public ownership, to a commercial organisation to build their training headquarters, predominantly for their own use.
Warren Farm Community Playing Fields are 61 acres of open green space in the London Borough of Ealing, designated as protected Metropolitan Open Land. These playing fields have been in public ownership since 1925. Ealing’s schools and independent children’s and adult sports associations have played on the fields for decades; they are the largest and best in the Borough.
Successive Councils have allowed the changing facilities to become run down, and the building is generally considered to be beyond repair.
What the Community needs is a 21st century sports pavilion with modern changing rooms and showers, a social space with catering facilities, perhaps a small administrative facility, and a playing fields maintenance plan, to service the existing playing fields.
What is proposed by Ealing Council is that these playing fields, in their entirety, are to be leased for 200 years at peppercorn rent to a corporate organisation which will build their own training centre, and upgrade pitches for their own use, on two thirds of the 61 acre site. The remaining third of the land will support a much diminished community sports field, with access controlled by the corporation, serviced by a small community changing facility built by them the corporation, on a ‘green field’ part of the site.
This campaign strongly objects firstly to the loss of two thirds of this much valued community outdoor sports space to a commercial organisation for a term the equivalent of seven generations. And secondly, we object to the permanent changing of the open character of this designated Metropolitan Open Land, the surrounding of the site by opaque security fencing, and the development of large, inappropriately designed blocks on the land protected under national, regional (The London Plan) and local planning law and policy.

It is also part of the Brent River Park, which was voted by the community as the priorty park for West London in the Mayors' "Help a London Park" scheme. For further information on why this community sports ground needs to be saved for the community and not handed over to a corporate entity read more.
